The screening process for the 2017/2018 Post-UTME exercise has begun. The set of instructions below, outlined by the University Registrar, contains everything you'll need to know to apply successfully for the examination. 1. ELIGIBILITY Notice is hereby given to all candidates who chose Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso as their first choice institution in the 2017/2018 Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) that a Post-UTME Computer Based Test (CBT) Screening Exercise will be conducted between Thursday 26 and Friday 27 October, 2017 at 10:00am . LAUTECH ASUU has finally suspended its four-months-long strike (or two years, in total) after a meeting with its members at the university’s main campus in Ogbomoso on Tuesday. I spoke to the Secretary of ASUU LAUTECH Dr Abegunrin and the union’s Zonal Coordinator Dr Ade Adejumo who confirmed that the strike had been suspended with immediate effect but academic activities will kick off on Monday, October 23. “The zone will have to be briefed, national will have to be briefed, but the Congress has suspended the strike in principle as from today but full lectures will resume on Monday,” Dr Adejumo said. “Skeletal things will continue, preparatory to the commencement of full academic activities on Monday.” The suspension is coming following news that the lecturers started receiving their three-months’ salary arrears -- one of their demands for resumption -- during the weekend. During a congress with students last week, LAUTECH Vice-chancellor Prof. A.S. Gbadegesin guaranteed that academic activities will commence in the university today, Monday. Clearly, that plan did not fall through, and is surprising for many, considering the news that the lecturers got some portion of their salaries over the weekend. But the burning question now is "What next?" Gbadegesin Despite being on strike for two consecutive sessions , coupled with issues of poor funding from Oyo and Osun state governments, and owing lecturers at least 12 months salaries, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, was ranked best university in Nigeria, according to the university’s Vice-chancellor Prof. A.S Gbadegesin. “Although we were not in session for two years, we were ranked the best state university in July and second best in NUC ranking,” he said while addressing students during a joint congress on Tuesday. A recent circular obtained exclusively by the Union of Campus Journalists (LAUTECH) reveals that the Governing Council has approved a new timeline for the payment of the lecturers three months salary, taking effect from Monday, October 9. The memo, signed by LAUTECH's Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr. J.A. Agboola, is a product of the emergency meeting held by the council on Friday, October 6. However, the salaries won't be paid all at once. According to the memo, "the Council headed by Professor Oladapo Afolabi, announced that the salary for three months would be staggered within four weeks. " This spacing, it stated, would "allow for proper accounting procedure." The Council said workers should pick up cheques for their salary on Monday. It said the use of cheque is to ensure that those repaying bank loans have access to their salary. Despite the school management saying "real progress" was being made in ensuring the school resumes academic activities as already schedules, the academic staff union has insisted that it won't continue with negotiations until the money promised by the owner-state governments is payed. Here's what the ASUU Chairman, Dr. Biodun Olaniran, said yesterday, per Punch : “The university management invited us to a meeting on September 18th and we honoured the invitation. The management wanted to start discussing with us and we asked if the owner states had credited the university’s account but they said no. “We told them there was no point going ahead with the negotiation because there was no commitment yet from the states. We told the management to inform us the moment the university’s account is credited and we would then negotiate with them. After speaking with the ASUU coordinator on Wednesday about the progress being made to end the strike, I thought it necessary to also hear from the school management's perspective. So, I interviewed the Registrar, Mr. J. A. Agboola, and in a nutshell, he reassured that ASUU and the school management were working together, and "real progress" was being made. I talked to the western region zonal coordinator of ASUU, Dr. Ade Adejumo, today about the latest on ASUU's stance regarding the strike, and precisely, the outcome of the Union's meeting with the school management on Monday. However, the answer I got was far from exciting. “Nothing has been offered to us,” Dr. Adejumo said, explaining that the union is still yet to receive the six months salary arrears promised by Oyo and Osun state government as their means of resolving the strike. There have been widespread rumors that LAUTECH is going to increase its tuition fees once it resumes. But recently, a member of the newly inaugurated governing council, Chief Babajide Bewaji, has said "there is no truth in the rumour." In an interview with The Nation, Bewaji, who is also who is the national president of LAUTECH Alumni Association, said LAUTECH’s priority right now is "to begin a hitch-free academic session." Concerning the modality for settling ASUU, he said the governors of Osun and Oyo states – Rauf Aregbesola and Senator Abiola Ajimobi – would pay three months each of the 12 months’ salary arrears owed lecturers, while the remaining six months will be restructured and paid "in no distant future." After much appeal by students for an extension of the deadline for tuition fee payments, the school management has finally considered the appeals and reopened the undergraduate portal.

Barely four days to exams, LAUTECH students rallied together to appeal to the school management to extend the deadline for payment of tuition fees. According to Oyedeji Ahmed (Lautech mouthpiece), who organized the congress which was held at 250LT on Friday, the deadline for payment of tuition fees was yesterday, Friday, March 18.  After being granted audience by the school management, all indications showed that they were hell bent on the ‘no school fees, no exam’ policy. According to an unconfirmed circular, tuition fee receipt will be part of the requirements to gain entry into the exam halls. However, he said there is still a slight probability that the portal will be reopened. According to our source, the Dean of Students Affairs has joined to appeal to the School management to reopen the portal for defaulters to pay. Early Tuesday, a report claiming that Balogun Aminat, a 200L student of Department of Agricultural Extention and Rural Development, was declared wanted for allegedly stabbing another student, went viral on social media. The report, originally published by Lautechportal.com and Lautechamebo.com, was later stated to be false. After facing major backlash from students for the flase news, the two campus blogs retracted the story and made a public apology. They said 'none of the students [mentioned] was stabbed' and that the case had been settled at the Students' Affairs. Defending himself, one of the bloggers said although he did not witness the incident, he got several message from ‘eyewitnesses,’ which prompted him to publish the story. However, it is still unclear at this time what really happened that birthed these allegations, in the first place.

The final timetable for the 2015/2016 Harmattan semester examinations, which will start on Monday, March 20,  has been released. A cross section of the participants It was an evening of brain racking, hacking and fun as Lautech students came together on Thursday, February 24, to compete in the qualification round of the Google Hash Code 2017. Fifty-seven students from several departments in the institution registered to participate in the event, a significant increase compared to the previous year which had barely half of the present number. The event which was held at the 'Old ICT' building on LAUTECH campus started around 6:30pm with nine teams of four students each.

The entrance examination for LAUTECH Pre-Degree Science Programme (PDS) will hold Tuesday, February 28. This was made known in an email sent out to the staff and students of the university. The examination, which is Computer-based (CBT), will be conducted at 10:00 A.M on Tuesday, February 28, at the different venues specified on applicants' print-outs. The school management released an amended academic calendar for the rest of the Harmattan semester on Wednesday, February 22. [DOWNLOAD] The new calendar, signed by the university Registrar, J. A. Agboola, revealed that Revisions will begin on Monday, February 27, and will last for two weeks before the Lecture-free week which will begin on Monday, March 13. The Harmattan Semester Examinations will commence on Monday, March 20, 2017. Quite oddly, the calendar also revealed that the Rain Semester will begin on Monday, April 17, just two days after the end of the Harmattan Semester. The members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, LAUTECH, on Tuesday, February, 21, suspended their months-long strike, announcing that academic activities will begin with immediate effect. The strike was suspended after a meeting on the university campus on the same day. The ASUU Chairperson, Biodun Olaniran, said the union agreed to suspend its strike after receiving a letter of commitment on how Oyo and Osun state governments intend to fund the university.

In a rather confusing turn of events, the Harmattan Semester examinations which were scheduled by the school management to commence today, Monday, February 20, will, apparently, not hold. The examination was originally supposed to begin the previous Monday, February 13, as stated by the school management in an email announcing the resumption date, however, it was postponed until Monday, February 20, due to what the university Registrar described as 'logistic reasons.' This has thrown the students into confusion causing them to air their opinions on social media.

All successful candidates offered admission into the LAUTECH during the 2016/2017 admissions exercise are to begin verification of results uploaded for on-line post UTME screening on Monday, February 13, 2017, at the at the Information and Communication Technology Centre (ICT) of the university. The announcement was made in an internal memo signed by the university Registrar, J.A. Agboola, on Thursday, February 9, 2017. The verification exercise will extend to Friday, February 24, 2017 (Saturday, February 19 and Sunday, February 20, 2017, not inclusive).
