7 Surprising Things You Didn't Know About LAUTECH SUG President, Solace.

If you were asked what you know about the current SUG President, what would you say? It would be quite shameful if as a follower you know nothing about the person leading and representing you.

This post strives to provide sufficient information you need to know about the current LAUTECH SUG President, Bakare Solace Oluwasanya Peace, to be able to trust and rely on his leadership.

This post originally appeared on Murraygists.wordpress.com:

The election that brought in Comrade Bakare Solace was a keenly contested election. Himself along side Comrade Zeal and Comrade Bepo, were the options ladokites had at the poll via e-voting. But the result showed that comrade solace will be saddled with the responsibility of leading ladokites for the 2014/2015 tenure.

Comrade Solace, however, happens to be the FIRST student from the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences (physiology department), to emerge as the number one student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.

He discussed with our crew about issues relating to his personal life, his efforts to serve fellow ladokites and lots more.

BRIEF PROFILE OF COMRADE SOLACE.

My name is Bakare Solace Oluwasanya Peace. I’m an indigene of Osun state but I reside in Akure and Sapele in Delta state (because my two paternal and maternal grandmothers are natives of Delta state).

ON ACADEMICS

I attended All Saints Primary School, and proceeded to Aquinas college in the 1990s. I gained admission into OAU to study Medicine, but couldn’t complete the program due to some difficulties and challenges. I then went back to Akure and started a tutorial center for youths in my community. God used me to help the education of some people who could have been causing nuisance to the populace.
Furthermore, I came to LAUTECH and applied for Medicine and Surgery, but it was at the time when the course had accreditation problem. In 2011, I was admitted into Ladoke Akintola University to study Medical Physiology.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU INTO CONTESTING FOR THE POST OF LAUTECH SUG PRESIDENT?

Although I was once the youth leader of my community-was once the electoral chairman of Ilobu student association, and a one time member of student representative council of SPAN LAUTECH, these were not the reasons why I contested for the post of SUG president. I contested because I want to be useful to my colleagues, to be a voice for the people and to serve their interest at every point.

WHAT EFFORTS HAVE YOU MADE TO IMPROVE THE WELFARE OF LADOKITES?

When I was campaigning, I promised Ladokites accommodation, transportation and security. I told my fellow students that Solace will not sleep just to ensure that ladokites can close their two eyes to sleep; I and my ever working team have been on the watch day and night to ensure that Ladokites are safe irrespective of their area. Also, Ladokites should expect the commercialization of the Student union building. Ladokites in College should expect cafeteria and ATM machine. Ladokites should expect more improved transportation across different areas. All which shall be realized very soon by Gods grace.

WHAT'S YOUR VIEW ON MISMANAGEMENT OF STUDENT UNION FUND.

Mismanagement of Student Union fund is a lugubrious happening which stems out from selfish interest. My party, NLV, taught me that a leader must put God first and himself last in all things. So when someone aspires for a post because of money, he will end up mismanaging all that is in his care. However, this is not good.

WHICH ASPECT OF STUDENT WELFARE DO YOU THINK THE SCHOOL AUTHORITY HAVE BEEN NEGLECTING.

The issue of LAUTECH becoming a residential school has been challenging, however we have been in conversations with the school management on how the senate extract that binds LAUTECH as a non residential school can be edited. Also, the school management believes that anything that happens to student outside school is non of their business, which ought not to be so!

WHO ARE YOUR ROLE MODELS…?

People who don’t give up easily, who don’t relent after a trial and who always try to go an extra mile are my role model.

YOU’RE THE FIRST STUDENT FROM FACULTY OF BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCE TO BECOME LAUTECH SUG PRESIDENT. HOW DO YOU FEEL?

Well, I give all glory to God Almighty. Its true that I’m a record breaker; but I also want to be a record setter. Collegians must see physical contributions of Comrade Solace to the new college, which is part of our aim. As much as I’m happy to be the record breaker, I would still like to create great legacies for those coming from behind.

LASTLY, YOUR ADVISE FOR STUDENTS ASPIRING FOR POLITICAL POSTS IN THE SCHOOL AND ADVISE FOR ALL STUDENTS OF LADOKE AKINTOLA UNIVERSITY.

Every one of us should know our purpose in life. Its not enough to contest or win; you need to know where you really fit in. And we should also be reminded that our academics is important.
GOD BLESS NIGERIA, GOD BLESS LAUTECH, AND GOD BLESS LADOKITES. ALUTA CONTINUA VICTORIA ASERTA.
