LAUTECH Students Explore Opportunities For Life ‘Beyond The School Walls’

Image
Adjusting to life after school is no easy task for fresh university graduates, particularly, in Nigeria, with the myriad of economic challenges. There are limited numbers of jobs in the market and very stiff competition for them. This plight is explained by recent data from the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) which reveals that the level of unemployment in the country as at the fourth quarter of 2016 rose to 14.9 percent -- the highest jobless rate since 2009. How then can one survive and, hopefully, thrive in the ‘big bad world’ beyond the four walls of the university campus? This was the question social empowerment group Youth for Social Impact (YSI) set out to answer at their maiden conference ‘Beyond the School Walls’ held at 250 Lecture Theatre in LAUTECH Ogbomoso campus. Over 300 students attended the conference which was graced by an array of high-brow speakers including the President of Computer Village, Ikeja, Mr Ahmed Ojikutu; Education Psychologist, Dr Isiak

Massive Turnout For Day 3 of LAUTECH Graduating Class Signout [Photos]

Image
Still in the spirit of celebration, the final year students of Ladoke Akintola University of technology continued to show the elation in their their hearts, throwing caution to the wind and living every moment like it's their last, perhaps because they know full well this might be the only chance left for all of them to be together before they finally go their separate ways. So, this explains the large number of students that came out today for the "Sign out" event, the third and definitely the most engaging occasion of the Final Year Brethren week, where they wore white T-shirts and some the "Jalamia" (an overall gown, usually worn by men), with markers in their hands ready to give them to anyone who cared to sign on their shirts.  Some had two to three shirts on, depending on how popular they were (who wouldn't want to famz a popular jingo anyway?). For obvious reasons, most Hijabis (women who wear the hijab) weren't wearing these shirts. Inste

LAUTECH Finalists Mark Day 2 of Logout Week With 'Cultural Day' event + Photos of Cutest Outfits

Image
Today, LAUTECH graduating class of 2016 marked the Day 2 of their Logout week with a 'Cultural Day,' and as you would expect, they came to slay hard! The Cultural Day is following the 'Back-to-School' day hosted at the Senate building on Monday to launch the Logout week. Like the Back-to-School day, the turnout for the Cultural day was not particularly massive, a situation which the Logout committee chairman, Olakanmi Joshua, explained was due to lectures and tests being fixed by lecturers in some departments, irrespective of the events of the week. The highlights of the event which was hosted at LAUTECH Alumni park included a live band and delectable servings of Koko Alata and Akara. But amidst the music and fanfare, their stunning, colourful outfits stole the show. So, if you weren't there, here are the top photos that sum up everything you missed at the FYB Cultural day:

10 Funniest Photos from LAUTECH Graduating Class ‘Back-to-School’ Day

Image
After much delay due to the prolonged strike that rocked LAUTECH, the graduating class of 2016 finally commenced their ‘Signout’ week today, starting with the traditional ‘Back-to-School’ day. How interesting this set’s Back-to-School day was, compared to that of the previous set, is open for argument. But to be fair, considering the countless hindrances faced by the finalists, in terms of the delay caused by the strike, coupled with the ‘short’ nature of the current semester, it would be rather unreasonable to set overly high expectations. However, despite everything, the finalists persevered and went ahead with the Signout event, and they did remarkably well. To give you a hint of what today’s Back-to-School event was like, here are the top 10 of the funniest costumes we saw around campus:
