Prime Club Awards Lautech And UI Students Scholarship.

A couple of Lautech and University of Ibadan students were on August 9th award a scholarship of 50,000 Naira by an organisation known as the Prime Club, Ibadan. This gesture of generosity was a first of it's kind and was done with the aim of supporting the forward movement of education in Nigeria.
"The recipients of the award are Olalekan Adeagbo, Olagunju Samson and Amao Temitope, all from LAUTECH and Feyikemi Olaoye, from UI. Each of them went back to their campuses with a cheque of N50, 000.

The recipients commended the club for its kind gesture towards the education sustenance of Nigerian students in the country. They described the club as student friendly with a desire to ensure that every child, irrespective of his background, enjoys the dividend of education.

Feyikemi, while appreciating the efforts of the club said: “I thought a club is just where people drink beer and have fun. I never thought anything good could ever emanate from one. But today, I have a change of mind about clubs and I really appreciate what the Prime Club has done for us.”

The president of the club, Alhaji Basiru Ajibade, in his address, stated that the scholarship award scheme was introduced in the agenda of the club to sustain the educational advancement of Ibadan indigenes.

According to him, the club will not relent in its efforts to ensure that every Ibadan indigene has equal access to tertiary education. He said the money was meant for the tuition fee and that the club would increase the scholarship package to include accommodation, books and feeding.

“Gone were the days when Ibadan people were seen as people with little education. Today, Ibadan has produced eminent professors, medical doctors, lawyers, scientists and so on. Our club’s annual scholarship award scheme is designed to promote academic excellence among Ibadan indigenes, as its contributions towards the realisation of millennium development goals within Ibadan sub-cultural group,” he said.

Speaking in the same vein, Professor Jelili Akinlade, the chairman of the planning committee, stated that about 45 students applied for the scholarship award and according to him, only four students met the criteria." (As seen on Lautech gossip).
