His write up contained an Ultimatum given to all concerned government that "If the state government and the school authorities fail to provide solution to the crisis within two weeks, the body would have no other option than to lead her members across the federation to the streets to save the future of our innocent students from this unpalatable situation."

According to the National President of  NAUS :

(BEING THE PRESS RELEASE BY THE LEADERSHIP OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS' NAUS ON THE CLOSURE OF UNIVERSITIES.)

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matters.

The leadership of the National Association of University Students (NAUS) condemn the closure of universities by the school authorities and government. The affected university include, Benue State University Makurdi, Ondo State University of Science and Technology Okitipupa, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomosho.

BENUE STATE UNIVERSITY, MAKURDI.

Our students at the Benue State University,Markurdi has been at home for over five(5) months now due to non payment of salaries and failure by the school management and state government to fulfilled the agreement reached with the leadership of academic staff union of university chapter of the institution.

The university student body condemn in totality the lackadaisical attitude of both immediate and past Governor of the state, Gabriel Suswan and present Governor of the state, Samuel Ortom towards the poor educational sector in the state.

ONDO STATE UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, OKITIPUPA.

The Ondo State University of Science and Technology has been shut down for the two month now by the school management with the consent of Governor of the state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko after the student stage a protest to show their grievances over the anti student policies by the school authorities led by the Vice Chancellor of the institution Prof. Tolu Odugbemi.

OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY, ILE IFE.

Our students at the Obafemi Awolowo University has been sent home by the university management due to the strike embarked upon by the union under the aegis of the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) to demand the payment of their hazard allowances for about sixty four (64) months.
The management of the university has failed to address the issue by providing necessary means to resolve the crisis instead they went ahead to send our student home.

LADOKE AKINTOLA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, OGBOMOSO.

The leadership of the academic staff union of university (ASUU) chapter of the institution has declared indefinite strike due to the failure of both Governor Abiola Ajumobi of Oyo state and Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state who are co-owner and visitors to the institution to fulfilled the agreement reached by the union and their refusal to pay the union of thirteen (13) months salaries.
The indefinite strike declared by the union made the school exams which had being scheduled to begin on Monday 13th July 2015 to be suspended till further notice which had in a long run affected the academic activities of the institution.

The leadership of the association strongly condemned the closure of the schools gates against students. The act is barbaric, ungodly and embarrassing to us as a student body.
We also condemn the condition of the students and the welfare of the workers which ought to be the obligation of the government that led to the closure of universities.

  • The leadership of the association was becoming worried over the failure of government to pay workers their entitlements and the rising spate of strikes in Nigerian ivory tower, NAUS appeal to the federal and state government to pay more attention to the educational sector by releasing adequate fund into the sector.

NAUS Position

  • We condemn in entirety of states' negligence to the condition of the students and the welfare of the workers.
  • We demand that the salaries of the workers should be paid within two weeks by the Governor of Benue State, Governor of Oyo State and Governor of Osun State.
  • We demand that the sixty four (months) hazard allowances of worker should be paid by the management of Obafemi Awolowo University within two weeks.
  • We demand that the aggrieved parties be invited to the table for discussion in order to seek for a permanent solution to the problem.
  • We demand that the Governor Olusegun Mimiko should order the management of Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa to re-open the institution immediately.

If the state government and the school authorities fail to provide solution to the crisis within two weeks, the body would have any other option than to lead her members across the federation to the streets to save the future of our innocent students from this unpalatable situation.
