SCOOP: Payment of LAUTECH Lecturers Salaries will Begin This Week

A recent circular obtained exclusively by the Union of Campus Journalists (LAUTECH) reveals that the Governing Council has approved a new timeline for the payment of the lecturers three months salary, taking effect from Monday, October 9.

The memo, signed by LAUTECH's Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr. J.A. Agboola, is a product of the emergency meeting held by the council on Friday, October 6.

However, the salaries won't be paid all at once. According to the memo, "the Council headed by Professor Oladapo Afolabi, announced that the salary for three months would be staggered within four weeks." This spacing, it stated, would "allow for proper accounting procedure."

The Council said workers should pick up cheques for their salary on Monday. It said the use of cheque is to ensure that those repaying bank loans have access to their salary.

Why this matters: It is not yet clear how, but this development will play a major role in hastening the resumption of academic activities since the payment of the three months salary has been the main cause of the delay.

Note that this report, although from a reliable source, has not yet been confirmed by the Registrar. Although, we have reached out for verification and comment, and will update this report accordingly. Also, we'll update you on how the lecturers, through ASUU, are responding to this.
