LAUTECH lecturers suspend strike; Academic activities to begin on Monday

The members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, LAUTECH, on Tuesday, February, 21, suspended their months-long strike, announcing that academic activities will begin with immediate effect.

The strike was suspended after a meeting on the university campus on the same day.

The ASUU Chairperson, Biodun Olaniran, said the union agreed to suspend its strike after receiving a letter of commitment on how Oyo and Osun state governments intend to fund the university.“After comparing the demands of the union and what the management has met out of the demands, and after extensive deliberations on the struggle so far, the union has resolved to suspend the strike immediately,” Olaniran said.

According to The Guardian, LAUTECH Vice Chancellor, Prof. Gbadegesin said the two owner state governments had paid N584 million out of the N7.6 billion they owed the institution.

However, the ASUU Chairman added that the union would not hesitate to return to strike if the government fails again on the promise of funding the school.

Following this development, the school management released an amended academic calendar stating that revision will begin on Monday, February 27, while the semester exams will begin on Monday, March 20.

The students were elated by the news and many immediately started reading for the upcoming examination.
