LAUTECH students to engage with the school management on Monday

LAUTECH students have agreed in a congress held today to stage a 'intellectual engagement' with the school management on Monday, February 13.

The students, led by some student's representatives, met on the campus to discuss a way forward after the school management made them resume on campus for academic activities since January 27, only to meet the lecturers still on strike.

During the congress, the students deliberated on how to make their grieviances known to the school management.

While some suggested a peaceful dialogue between the students and the school management, others were head-strong on protesting at the university's senate building.

Some even suggested disrupting the verification process of the incoming 100-level student scheduled to start on Monday, however, the suggestion was kicked against.
Heeding the advice of the ASUU Chairman, Mr. Biodun Olaniran, during a joint congress between ASUU and the students on Tuesday, February 7, to desists from protest, the students reached a conclusion to rally at the school premises on Monday with the motive of engaging with the school management regarding the resumption of the university and commencement of examination.

In a interview with one of the students' leader popularly known as Governonr M.K.O., after the congress, he said, the rally tomorrow is "not really a protest, instead, an intellectual engagement with the school management."

You would recall that the management of LAUTECH sent emails to the students on January 23, announcing that the university would be open for normal activities on Friday, January 27.

However, it has been over two weeks since the the announced resumption date and academic activity have yet to commence since the lecturers under the umbrella of ASUU refused to resume until their demands are met.

Also, the examination scheduled to start on Monday, February 13, obviously, will not hold, as no timetable for the exams have been released.

However, the questions remain:

Will the management be open to the 'intellectual engagement' proposed?

Will the students showcase their intelligence? Or will it be highjacked by those willing to protest?
Time will tell
