VIDEO: Here’s what really transpired at the protest held in Ibadan today

After weeks of excessive publicity, the much anticipated January 9th mass action finally took place today.

Surprisingly, despite the enthusiasm shown by Ladokites on social media, a population of barely 300 students turned up for the protest.

Nontheless, the protest held as planned -- and attracted major mainstream media attention, with the likes of Channels TV and Sahara Reporters covering the protest.

The real question, however, is whether the protest achieved the aim for which it was organized? So, without further ado, here’s a breakdown of what transpired during the protest today.

Hightlights from today’s protest at Government Secretariat, Ibadan

1) Ladokites waited outside the Government Secretariat, Ibadan for some hours before Governor Ajimobi came out to address them.

2) After first scolding the student for ‘unruly behaviour,’ he went on to repeat what he had stated last week, which is as follows:

- That he met with NANS excos and he told them that him and aregbe will disburse 250m each
- That he will meet with staffs' unions(ASUU, NASU, SSANU) on Wednesday
- He finally said Lautech will be opened before the end of the month. He reaffirmed it saying the students should be rest assured that he won't say what he won't do.

3) On the issue of bribery, it was reported that some students collected the sum of N500,000 from the government but other students, dissapointed by their action, grabbed the money and tore it. This is partly true.

Upon investigation, we learned that the money was given to the some student after they requested for ‘transportation fare/money for fuel’ from the governor. However, other students were not in support, so one student hijacked the money and threw it into the air. Everybody started scampering to pick from the 500 notes on the floor.

To answer the question of wheter the protest achieved the aim for which it was organized, we spoke to a pioneer of the ReopenLautech champaign who told us that the aim of the protest was achieved.

Stating the achievements, he said, they were able to bring the governor outside the comfort of his office, to the front of the whole Nation, to affirm the resumption of LAUTECH ‘with his own mouth.’

Here’s a video of his address:
